Professor Tim Flannery, the Commissioner for Climate Change said on radio on Friday, 25th March 2011 

 

" If the world as a whole cut all emissions tomorrow the average temperature of the planet is not going to drop in several hundred years, perhaps as much as a thousand years...”.

The Federal Labor/Green alliance government, not content with wasting the taxpayers money on the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, is wasting another $5.6 million dollars  on a Climate Commission headed by Tim Flannery. 

This Commission according to Minister Greg Combet  “It will provide expert advice on climate change science and impacts” .  

Well read on to see some of Tim Flannery’s previous “expert advice on climate change”:

That is Tim Flannery with no qualifications in Climate Science, he has a doctorate in Palaeontology.

This is the Tim Flannery that said in 2005 that droughts could leave Sydneys Dams dry in just two years.

The Tim Flannery that said that most climate skeptics were men over 65.

The Professor Tim Flannery that said in 2008  “The water problem is so severe for Adelaide that it may run out of water by early 2009.” (Adelaide’s Dams are almost full)

The Tim Flannery who said in 2007 that “Sydney and Brisbane, water supplies are so low they need desalinated water urgently, possibly in as little as 18 months”. No desal plant is being used anywhere, because all the three cities have too much water in their Dams.

The Tim Flannery who said in 2004 that “I think there is a fair chance Perth will be the 21st century’s first ghost metropolis” . Ten years into the 21st Century, Perth is still there and for its size the most prosperous city in Australia..

The Tim Flannery who said in 2008 (three years ago) that “in five years there’ll be no Arctic ice cap“. Well the Arctic Icecap is still there, but Tim Flannery says there are still two years left.

Tim Flannery who said in 2007 ” I think it’s too late for debate now”, and have no doubt that Tim Flannery wants a Carbon Tax, he said in 2007 “Carbon tax is the way forward” , so much for the ‘independence’.  

Tim Flannery is just a propagandist for the Labor Government.

Its an indication of how much this Labor Government is out of touch with the people, that they somehow think the appointment of a serial alarmist and exaggerator will be a PR positive.

UPDATE: Tim Flannery was interviewed the next day (11/2/11) on 891 Adelaide by Ian Henschke. Three times Ian Henschke asked him “are you a climate scientist”, and three times Tim Flannery squirmed and evaded the question.  

Tim Flannery gets $180,000 per year for a part time job, and he is not even a climate scientist.

Thousands Rally Against Carbon Tax

"A concerted Australian grassroots campaign holds rallies in six major cities to protest the imposition of climate change taxes and demand new election.

Thousands of protestors are challenging Prime Minister, Julia Gillard's, “undemocratic” climate policies demanding either an immediate election or that her government drops all such proposals. They say imposing the taxes would be a betrayal of democratic principles because Gillard was elected with no mandate to raise any such taxes.

Speaking at the event will be leading MPs and scientists opposed to climate taxes. In response one Government Minister (Albanese) labeled the rally participants as 'ratbags.'

A press release by organizer, Viv Forbes, Chairman of the Carbon Sense Coalition (March 23, 2011) announces that 22 diverse associations representing tens of thousands of Aussies will put the Gillard government’s environmental tax policies to the test. The Carbon Sense Coalition claims “thousands of Australians all over the country have signed a letter to Prime Minister Julia Gillard opposing the carbon tax.”

Skeptics say the government is wrongly basing its decisions on the discredited science of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

ClimateTaxes Will Achieve Little or No Impact

Forbes adds:
"This tax on carbon dioxide will have no effect whatsoever on global climate, little effect on the production of carbon dioxide but a large effect on the cost of living and job prospects for Australians. This is merely a wealth redistribution scheme where most of the wealth will be consumed on compliance, regulation, red tape, subsidies and price supports for the Climate Change Industry."

Protesters say any such tax would hurt the Australian economy and gravely impact families, imposing an additional $300 a year on household energy bills. Australia produces only one percent of global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and, based on IPCC calculations, such a tax levied for 50 years will reduce global temperatures by an indiscernible 0.015 degrees centigrade and 2mm rise in sea levels.

Negative public opinion polls also appear to be linked to the growing number of embarrassing revelations undermining the credibility of the IPCC for using dubious non-peer reviewed findings.

Disillusionment in the greenhouse gas theory of climate change is increasing among independent non-government funded scientists. Carbon dioxide is a so-called greenhouse gas and comprises just 0.04 percent of the atmosphere. Environmentalists and leaders of some the world’s wealthiest nations championed the greenhouse gas theory as a promising vehicle for cap and trade green taxes.

No Discernible Human Influence on Climate

Aussie climate skeptics such as Malcolm Roberts, have been at the forefront of promoting science that discredits the IPCC claims. Roberts published his own lucid rebuttal of the man-made global warming theory with, 'Two Dead Elephants in Parliament.'

Roberts drew attention to the IPCC's Table 2.11 (2007) that reveals by the IPCC’s own admission, it has ‘low’ or ‘very low’ understanding of 80 percent of all factors impacting climate. In their Third Report the IPCC claimed that as CO2 levels increased then global temperatures would increase. However, since 1998, despite unending rises in atmospheric CO2, global temperatures have fallen.

On such evidence, along with other arguments, the protesters say there is no compelling reason to show human emissions of carbon dioxide is causing any climate change. Thus the imposition of climate taxes is both scientifically unjustified and impacts negatively on economic freedom.

Wide Cross Section of Society Against the New Tax

Organizers claim these are gatherings of Australian citizens with a peaceful demonstration message. There are no projected figures of the expected turnout but interest has been considerable according to the Consumers and Taxpayers Association. They say they had over 100,000 hits on their website within the two weeks leading up to the rally.

The cities involved in the ‘No Carbon Tax’ protest are Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The six rallies are expected to comprise many representatives of diverse groups including “Young Australians, Working Families, Students, Workers, Small Business Owners and Senior Citizens.”

Yesterday, the 4000 Australians, the working families, pensioners, blue collar workers, who reached into their own pockets to express their democratic right over the fury they have about the direction this government is going, received a response from politicians we elected to our nation’s parliament and it was this.

Nick Champion, Member for Wakefield, called us “extremists with all the credibility of a Dungeons and Dragons convention”.

Minister Wong, in the height of conceit and arrogance, disparagingly referred to us as “that audience”. 

Senator Feeney interjected in the Senate and called us “members of the Ku Klux Klan”.

These comments are the height of absolute idiocy, they are disgusting. They show in direct light their improper motives and duplicity in using the term “deniers”. 

Labor with comments such as these deserve neither the respect nor the support of the Australian people and Labor should unequivocally apologise. They did not impugn the character of us in the parliament, where we expect it as part of this circus, but they have impugned the character of the salt of the fabric of the Australian people.

Ms Gillard and the Labor party,we are not “that audience”, we are not “extremists”,we  are not part of a “dungeons and dragons convention” we are not part of the “Ku Klux Klan”. 

We are the people who gave you your job and  your actions are despicable.

BEFORE THE POLL: WHAT LABOR USED TO SAY ABOUT A CARBON TAX
 

Ms Gillard claimed: ―There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead.‖
(Channel 10, 16 August 2010)
 

On the Friday before the election Ms Gillard stated categorically: ―I rule out a carbon tax.‖ (Front page of The Australian, 20 August 2010)
 

Wayne Swan: ―What we rejected is this hysterical allegation that somehow we are moving towards a carbon tax.” (Meet the Press, 15 August 2010)
 

Mr Swan: ―We have made our position very clear, we have ruled it out.” (7.30 Report, 12 August 2010)
 

AFTER THE POLL: GILLARD HAS BROKEN THAT PROMISE
 

On 24 February 2011, Ms Gillard, flanked by the Greens, announced she wanted to introduce a carbon tax on 1 July 2012. She said this might morph into an Emissions Trading Scheme 3 to 5 years later. But it could be with us for years.
 

A $26 a tonne carbon price would:
Push up electricity bills by an extra $300 a year, per household
Petrol would rise by 6.5 cents a litre
Gas would rise by up to 10 per cent in the first year
Groceries would rise
Manufacturing jobs would be put at risk
 

Ms Gillard won’t say what the carbon price would be, or what compensation would be offered to households and businesses, or whether petrol would be included, or even when / if it would turn into a floating-price ETS
Nobody can now trust any significant statements from Julia Gillard
Labor is using the hung parliament as a weak excuse for a carbon tax
 

WHAT ABOUT PETROL?
Ms Gillard was cagey about the inclusion of petrol in her carbon tax when she announced it on February 24, 2011. She said the matter was yet to be discussed and resolved – her own paper however, says it is on the table.
But Greens MP Adam Bandt let the cat out of the bag when he told Sky News on February 25:
―We are very pleased that the paper that's been released and the agreement that we've reached has
transport as being included in a carbon pricing mechanism.‖
 

Soon after the carbon tax announcement, Greens climate spokeswoman Christine Milne pushed for petrol to be included in the scheme, which earned a rebuke from Ms Gillard. She said on Sunday February 27 that Senator Milne’s comments on the inclusion of petrol ―were not appropriate in the sense these discussions are still to come‖.
 

IS IT A TAX?
Ms Gillard has since admitted her fixed-price carbon scheme would indeed function like a tax.
It is a tax, it is the definition of a tax. She just cannot bring herself to call it a tax.
